You book a spray tan and then realize your workout routine is about to clash with it. Sweat, friction, and tight clothing are basically the enemy of a fresh spray tan. So what do you do?
The First 24 Hours Are Critical
This is the golden rule: avoid any activity that makes you sweat for at least 8 to 12 hours after your session. That includes the gym, hot yoga, running, or any intense cardio. Sweat can cause the tan to streak or fade unevenly before it fully sets.
Plan Your Week Around Your Tan
The easiest fix is to tan at the end of the week, after your last workout. Tan Friday night, rest Saturday, and you’re golden for Sunday. Or tan Sunday night so Monday’s workout doesn’t interfere.
What to Wear to the Gym After Tanning
Once your tan is fully set (after 24 hours), you’re good to go. But keep these things in mind. Wear loose, breathable fabrics. Avoid tight waistbands and sports bras that create friction lines. Change out of sweaty clothes as soon as you’re done. Shower with a gentle body wash immediately after.
The Truth About Frequent Tanners
If you work out daily, you’ll probably notice your tan fades a bit faster. That’s normal. Sweat and friction accelerate exfoliation, which means your tan sheds quicker. The fix? Book maintenance sessions a little more frequently — maybe every 5 to 6 days instead of 7 to 10.
